My last day I didn't want to waste so set out nice and early catching a sweet sunrise. With the swell predictions down we tried making the most of what was available so drove out along the Otago Peninsula to Sandfly Bay.

I loved how with a 20min drive from the city of Dunedin can bring you out to the country away from civilisation, to peace and quiet. With a 10min walk from the cars through a maze of bush we reached the beach with nice dunes.

Simon the guy I have been taking snaps of during the weekend said today there wasnt much choice on surf. It was true but best make the most of it with a morning like that.

Feeling the cool ocean breeze didn't tempt me today, I happy to stay ashore. With the scenery looking fabulous and the surf looking average I was keen to check out some wildlife. Now it was a duel, I stood there... growling at a seal..pretty much was up to who could look the scariest. With the speed it hobbled off at I ponder if the chicks find me that scary aswell... What a laugh the surfers would of had.
With the waves becoming more scarce there was a lot of waiting. Now I was on a hunt to find some penguins. Didn't have any luck so stuck to the surfing shots.
Again I had the same setup, Canon 5D Mark II with a mixture of 24-105mm f/4L and the 70-200mm f/2.8L. Worked well for that day, a 300mm lens would make it a little easier getting tight shots.
Cant wait to be back later in the summer to check out some more surf!
With the surfing done it was time to figure out how we made out way through the maze-like bush. It was harder finding entry but got it the end. I was still a bit careful not to stumble upon anymore wildlife. Now to go check more Dunedin uni life!
Hope ya enjoyed the read! Stefan Haworth
